The cymbal is a circular metal percussion plate instrument that is played either by striking it with a stick or by hitting two together. Cymbal type instruments are ancient and evidence of them is found in the bible as well as in civilizations from Egypt across South and East Asia China. The modern Western cymbal developed around the 13th century. It has since become widely used in classical, popular and military music.
