Ghungroo are ankle bells commonly used in traditional and classical Indian dance as a way of drawing the audience’s attention to the unique and graceful footwork of the dancers. The anklet of bells produce varied pitches depending on the metallic composition and size and can be made from 50 up to 200 bells. The other names that this instrument are known by include ghunghroo, ghunghru, ghungur or asamiya.
