Naqqara is a Middle Eastern kettle drum with a rounded back and a hide head. It is beaten with a stick and is usually played in pairs. It is played in military and ceremonial music throughout the Islamic world and has been known in Turkey, Syria, and Egypt a since the Middle Ages (5th-15th century).
